Coles Bay sources its water from the Tin Mine Dam via some small tributaries which feed into the main dam. Over the winter of 2006 and summer of 2006/7 the water level in the main dam fell dramatically. Attempts to pipe water from the other springs and creeks in the Tin Mines area to the main dam yielded limited results, and a tanker was deployed to cart water from the Apsley River. During the summer of 2009/2010 there was an abundance of rain which helped to fill the supply dams, but they remain a limited resource, so visitors are asked to be mindful of this in their water use.
