General Questions 

What are the walks we can do and level of difficulty?
Walks range from short 20-minute walks to Sleepy Bay to 3-day walks with 300 metre+ grades over the Mount Graham saddle. There are walks for all ability levels. The lighthouse boardwalk at Cape Tourville is wheelchair accessible. Please enquire with National Parks on the suitability and level of fitness required for specific walks. What are the names of the Hazards and how did they get their names?
The Hazard's range (named after a captain of a whaling ship), Mt. Mayson, Mt. Amos (early settler), Mt. Dove, Mt. Baudin (French Explorer), Mt. Parsons (established the fisheries in 1920).

Fishing? Licenses/Types of Fish?
Great Oyster Bay offers one of the best inshore fisheries in Australia. The Bay abounds with a variety of top class table fish including flathead, Australian salmon, trevally, trumpeter, and squid. Licenses can be purchased at the Iluka Gourmet Shop and Coles Bay Trading Company.

Where are the public toilets?
Adjacent to Muir's Beach and at the Community Centre. They are listed on the maps of: "Your Guide to Freycinet". During the summer 2 portaloos are situated near the jetty and the boat ramp below Coles Bay Trading Company.

How many people live in Coles Bay?
150 permanent residents year round, 200,000+ annual visitors.

Is there a golf course?
Yes, a nine-hole public course at Swanwick. Under "what to do" section.

Are dogs allowed in the National Park or is boarding available locally?
No dogs are allowed in the Park and there are no local boarding facilities.

Climate of the area?
Coles Bay is in the sunniest and driest part of Tasmania. More info on weather under "weather" section.

What time are the shops and services open, Sunday trading?
Sunday trading year round. Hours of shops, restaurants, and services depends on the time of year. Meals are usually served until 8 pm at most restaurants and shops are open until approx. 7:30-8pm in summer. Winter hours vary and most shops shut at 5-6 pm before Christmas and after Easter.

Can I buy petrol in Coles Bay?
Yes, there are two shops that sell petrol. Petrol stations are marked on the map on "Your Guide to Freycinet".
